Jasons Taquiera

Hey Taco Trail followers. Where does the year go? Man, I am looking at my last post and thinking it seems like yesterday there I was in the middle of the hottest summers on record trying to cool off with some tacos and beers. About one month ago I thought of a new post and just did not find the time to make it happen. If you followed the previous visits you know that there are several things key to the perfect taco. Firstly, the tortilla. Second, the salsa. Thirdly, the meat concoction in the middle. We ventured down to El Merendero on S 12th avenue between Irvington and Valencia. This place is bright orange and you cannot miss it unless you have all ready had margaritas at some northside fake spot serving pseudo tacos. This place also serves a great medley of seafood items such as mixed seafood cocktails, shrimp, pulpo, etc. Good oysters and good scallops. I have coming here for years. Anna is a server and is always fun to see and provides great service. I ordered the chicken tacos which are kind of like taquitos and come with a fresh supply of guacomole and sour cream. The chips are usually warm and the salsa is a bit weak in the heat area. The tacos came out piping hot and the beans were also hot and non-lardy. It was all good. I have to come clean with something. This place has never served a great taco in my opinion although I will come back to try the fish tacos. But, they do have the best chicken enchiladas in Tucson if not the world. Hey, I'm doing a taco blog. I wanted to fess up about the enchiladas. They are usually the Tuesday special but call ahead. 294-1522. Address is 5443 S 12th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85706. Also check out the cool meat market across the street at Blanca's.
